Space Revitalization with Feng Shui

The following space revitalization project was facilitated by Kim Colwell, from the Shambhalla Institute. Kim is an eco interior designer and second generation feng shui master:
Many people that garden already have a composting system in place but are unaware that using tap water to irrigate the garden can account for more than 30% of a home's water consumption.
In the midst of all the attention organic vegetables and free-range meats have been garnering, it is easy to overlook the importance of our choice in seafood. Many species of fish and marine life are being threatened, yet are wildly available in many supermarkets still. Though we may not be aware, what we choose to consume can greatly impact the marine eco system in this supply and demand market.
There are many ways to raise a vegetable garden and those with a green thumb should look into building a greenhouse if they have the space. Having a greenhouse can extend the growing season, leading to more benefits and less energy drain caused by buying supermarket produce, as well as open up a larger selection of what you can grow. With homekits widely available, it's actually quite easy to set one up.
Plastics marketed as "biodegradable" are quickly hitting the market but they may not be as environmentally friendly as the manufacturers make them out to be. Although much better than regular plastic, they are still damaging to the environment in ways people may not be aware of.

Switching to Soy Ink

For those that have home offices and businesses that produce a lot of printed work, the benefits of switching to soy-based inks in addition to recycled paper can be exponential. Choosing to use soy-based ink is not only a small step we can all take to help the environment, but actually results in higher print quality and longer lasting color than traditional printing ink. Being now available for home laser printers, it's worth switching to.
With mainstream America finally beginning to embrace the concept of the electric car, there are a lot of questions that prospective car buyers have in purchasing a vehicle that plugs in instead of filling. While not readily available at the moment, a host of electric vehicles are poised to hit the North American market within the year. They may not be right for everyone, but switching to a zero-emission vehicle in the future can greatly impact the environment as we strive to move away from fossil fuel dependency.

Making Use of Greywater

Much of the water used in a household for washing purposes simply goes down the drain but it can actually be put to better use to cut down on our water consumption and reduce the amount of water that makes its way to sewers. By installing a greywater purification system, washwater can be reused for irrigation and other household functions.
The Energy Star label helps more than one third of Americans choose their appliances and electronics. In addition to being a more eco-friendly choice for home appliances, the US government also offers rebates and tax credits for many Energy Star certified products, making them very attractive choices for greener living.
Between absorbing the sun's energy and the heat released by the decay of minerals buried deep, the earth generates twice as much power as humans currently consume, making it a very attractive sustainable energy source. Unfortunately, most of this power is hard to reach on an industrial grade level. For the home use, however, geothermal power is becoming a readily available alternative energy source to both heat and cool the home.
