Everyone loves a clean bathroom. But for those who choose to make their home more eco conscious, an eco-friendly bathroom is right up your alley. The bathroom provides a wonderful opportunity to save water and reduce chemicals.

1.Linens
One way we can make our bathroom more eco-friendly is by wrapping ourselves in organic cotton. One of the great things about organic cotton is that they require less pesticides to produce than regular cotton towels. Also, organic cotton uses dyes that are less toxic to the environment and are gentler for sensitive skin.

Also about those shower curtains, you might want to try a heavy cotton duck curtain instead of the vinyl or plastic. Duck cotton is a heavy, plain, woven cotton fabric that is woven together with two yarns. Unfortunately, the plastic in the shower curtain are PVC, which stands for Polyvinyl Chloride. The plasticizers in PVC can disrupt your hormones and become airborne, especially in a room where steam is involved.

If you are ever looking for an eco-friendly but modern looking shower curtain, a brand called Rock Candy Life would be right up your alley. This brand does gives you great looking shower curtains with a very modern design, and at the same time, it is non-toxic and good for the environment as well.

2.Bath Products
Now, I like shower gels, lotions and body butters as much as the next person. Thankfully there are a lot of natural options out on the market. Natural bath products are friendlier to your skin than chemical-laden offerings from major cosmetics companies. Try things like handmade soaps, beeswax candles, products with milk and honey, natural air fresheners and the like.

3. Water Conservation
I am all about water conservation. There is a good way in which you can conserve water, or use extra water for things such as your plants or garden. One of the ways you can do this is to buy a a low-flow showerhead. It reduces water consumption by 30 percent, yet still provide a pressurized spray for your shower.Another nifty gadget, a grey-water diverter, sends used water from the shower or bath to a collection container for distribution to your garden.

Now I know we all like our hot showers in the morning, but insulating your water heater and lowering its thermostat to 120 degrees makes a real difference in the amount of energy used to heat your morning shower. And for all the water that our toilets use, consider replacing your toilet with a low-flow model if it's more than 12 years old. It saves the amount of gallons of water your toilet uses when it flushes. Water conservation is just great, isn't it?

4. Use Recycled Decor
Now of course, we all want our eco-friendly bathrooms to look jazzy, but there's a better way to do it. Most of the time, we go to the hardware store and buy whatever we think will look great in our bathroom. But recycled products could be another great option. Try products such as recycled glass tiles for your floors, showers, baths, and countertops. Recycled glass tile is a particularly good choice for low emissions.

5.Clean Using Green
The final touch for our bathroom is to make sure we are using safe, all natural cleaning products. You can usually tell when a product is bad for you and when it is toxic for you by the labeling. The new line by Clorox called Green Works uses all natural ingredients instead of harsh chemicals. There are other brands such as Seventh Generation and Ecover are other good options.

Use all of these tips and you can have one great looking (and smelling!), and of course, water efficient and non-toxic bathroom. This is just one more step to having the ultimate a eco-friendly home, one room at a time.
