Looking for a fun and green way to spend a weekend? Try throwing a seed bomb party!

A favorite activity of many guerrilla gardening groups around the world, making seed bombs is a fun way to expedite the planting of flowers and veggies around your home and community. They don't take long to make, and they can be planted while walking, cycling, or even driving! Perhaps the best thing about seed bombs is that they are engineered to need little maintenance, and can be thrown into hard-to-reach areas that could use some sprucing up. In the words of Jasmin Malik Chua of Planet Green, "seed bombs are a covert--and, OK, just a tad passive aggressive way of protesting and combating urban sprawl."

So what's a seed bomb? According to guerrillagardening.org, a traditional seed bomb (also known as a 'green grenade') is a mixture of clay soil (or potter's powder), compost, and seeds. These three things are mixed in a ratio of 5:1:1 and combined with water to hold them together. After the ingredients have been combined they can be sculpted into different shapes. Most often, they are molded into small balls--easy to throw!

After being shaped, seed bombs are dried in the sun. They can then be placed into a bag or basket and taken on your favorite stroll or bike ride.

In summation, seed bombs are an affordable, fun, and easy way to add some greenery to your neighborhood. Get together with some friends and "'pimp your pavement."
