Pulling Weeds

By Karen Moore on
pulling-weeds.jpgIt started out as the occasional weed wacking every other weekend in my yard, but now I'm a woman on a mission!  Spring is upon us (I know many of you are still knee-deep in snow, but hey, this is Southern California) and I have visions for a beautiful backyard.  A woman on a budget with visions of luxurious landscapes...hmmmm?  How does this work?

First, the vision, then a Plan of Action.
Second, commitment to hard labor.
Third, search CraigsList.com

During the last couple of weekends, I have been filling my big green bin with a ton of weeds from my backyard (and I've barely made a dent!).  But somehow, the experience of this back-breaking work has been oddly therapeutic.  And during the weed-pulling process, I have had my eye-opening, one-with-nature, satisfying moments; as well as my frustrating, wanting-to-pull-my-hair-out and scream moments.

The weeds continue to feel like a metaphor for my life somehow.  Pulling those suckers out of the ground, getting the whole root out, is oddly gratifying.

And unlike somethings in life, you see instant results from your efforts. Now, that's a reason to do yard work!!  (Can I get an "Amen!")

I must admit that I have a not so secret deadline that I am working toward...my son's first birthday on May 19.  We WILL be having a party in our backyard!  And if you saw our backyard, you will know that this is not some easy task before me. (perhaps I will post some "before" pics)

So...I will continue to dig, pull, vision, plant, paint, stain, compost and search Craigslist.com for deals.  I plan to take you on the journey of transformation with me.
